The latest from our class Instagram account - our new chairs (finally) came!

Two months after our new tables came in, we finally got the matching chairs - the students were super-excited when they saw them! It will be so nice to have a uniform set of tables and chairs, so that students aren’t consistently concerned with getting a chair that’s not too big or not too small for their table (we had 5 different sizes/types of chairs, many which were original to the school’s opening in 1977). Many thanks to our principal, Ms. Linton, for making this happen! via Instagram https://ift.tt/2GZne2F

The latest from our class Instagram account - 2018 Track and Field Day

Yesterday we had our annual grade 3-5 track and field day. It was a glorious day to be outside (especially after I spent the last two days of last week inside at meetings)! It was great to see the students participating to the best of their abilities, and encouraging each other at the 800m run (the station I was running), and at the 6 x 50m relay! #onenaturechallenge via Instagram https://ift.tt/2siskTb

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Days 9 & 10)

It’s been pretty blustery out there the past couple of days (gusting to 40 km/h today!), but that didn’t stop us from getting outside for the #onenaturechallenge with Ms. Petersen’s class to do some writing (yesterday) and some reading (today) together. via Instagram https://ift.tt/2GhO8CP

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Day 7)

For the #onenaturechallenge today, we got outside for some independent reading time. It wasn’t the warmest afternoon (9C), but there was no wind and it was sunny - what a glorious day to be outdoors! via Instagram https://ift.tt/2KPPRml

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Day 6)

It was a bit of a cool and windy day today, so we decided to keep warm for the #onenaturechallenge. The grade 3s and Ms. Petersen’s Grade 1s partnered up to predict him many laps they could complete in our time outside, and then worked to see how many they could actually walk/run. Many of the students surprised themselves by completing more laps than they initially predicted! via Instagram https://ift.tt/2jKjgBP

The latest from our class Instagram account - Neil Flambe and the Aztec Abduction

This is ‘Neil Flambé and the Aztec Abduction’. It’s the second book in the Neil Flambé series by @sylvesterartwork. It takes place in Mexico, where Neil travels to compete in a battle of the chefs. His older cousin Larry (who is also his Sous Chef) comes with him to help him try to win the contest, but he also helps Neil by using his knowledge of Mexico to help save their friend Isabella Tortellini, who has been kidnapped. We really like Larry’s character because he’s extremely funny, and he’s a coffee addict! Currently, there are six books in the #neilflambe series... so far - here’s hoping there’s a seventh one on the way soon! 🤞🏻 - the students of 3B via Instagram https://ift.tt/2I9eDfi

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Day 5)

What a great afternoon to get outdoors for the #onenaturechallenge! We headed out with Ms. Petersen’s Grade 1 class for a nature scavenger hunt after recess, and the students had a blast finding all kinds of things out there... including a new baby evergreen tree that’s sprouted up on our school yard! via Instagram https://ift.tt/2jHGKYv

The latest from our class Instagram account - Neil Flambe and the Marco Polo Murders

This is ‘Neil Flambé and the Marco Polo Murders’. It’s the first book in the Neil Flambé series by @sylvesterartwork. We love the Neil Flambé books because Neil is such a great character. He is so enthusiastic about cooking (he’s only 14 years old in the first book AND he has his own restaurant), partly because he has such an amazing sense of smell. His sense of smell not only helps him in the kitchen, but also allows him to help Vancouver police inspector Sean Nakamura solve crimes. We think you should read the Neil Flambé books because they’re really good books and they will knock your socks off! Currently, there are six books in the series - here’s hoping there’s a seventh one on the way! 🤞🏻 (the students of 3B) #neilflambe via Instagram https://ift.tt/2jIdyAF

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Day 4)

For the #onenaturechallenge on Monday, we went outside with the rest of the school for #musicmonday to sing a few songs, led by Ms. Ferley - what a gorgeous day for it! #latergram via Instagram https://ift.tt/2IqwRw4

(note: We did make it outside for an extra-long recess on Friday, May 4th, despite the absence of a photo on the blog. We celebrated #maythefourthbewithyou by watching Star Wars: Episode IV (A New Hope) in the afternoon, but we made sure to get outside for an extra 30 minutes for Day 3 of the #onenaturechallenge school challenge in the morning. Check out our Instagram feed for Friday's post.)

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Day 2)

Day 2 of the #onenaturechallenge: We went outside to do some writing. The students were writing and sketching in their #30x30challenge journals about what their favourite things to do outside are. So many great ideas! via Instagram https://ift.tt/2Ku25kl

The latest from our class Instagram account - #onenaturechallenge 2018 (Day 1)

Yesterday was our first day of the #OneNatureChallenge (also known as the #30x30challenge), where people are encouraged to spend 30 minutes a day in nature for 30 days, in order to reconnect people with nature for the sake of their health and mental well-being. We started by reading with our friends in Ms. Petersen’s class. You can find out more about the challenge by checking out @davidsuzukifdn. via Instagram https://ift.tt/2jrophW

The latest from our class Instagram account - tweeting with an author!

This morning, we finished reading ‘Neil Flambé and the Duel in the Desert’ by Kevin Sylvester (@sylvesterartwork). We began reading the six-book series when school started, way back in September, and the students have loved them - they’ve become really invested in the characters, both through Sylvester’s great writing, as well as his fantastic sketches that he sprinkles throughout his books. The sixth book is the last one of the series that’s been published, and the students were wondering if he was working on another one (especially because it ends with such a cliffhanger!). ‘Well... let’s tweet him!’, I said, so we worked as a class to compose a tweet, and then posted it. We moved on to Math, but twelve minutes later, I heard my computer ‘bing’, and it was a reply from Mr. Sylvester to our tweet! He directed us to a blog post, and basically indicated that the situation is similar to where the third book in his #MINRS series (which is coming out later this month) was a year ago - the draft was written, but no go-head from the publishers to publish it, until more of the earlier books of the series sold. The students immediately started brainstorming ways of ‘getting the word out’ about how awesome Neil and all of his adventures are - it looks like I might have an unplanned persuasive writing unit on my hands! Love it! (PS The Neil Flambé books are awesome - I love them, too!) via Instagram https://ift.tt/2HFzsTr
