The latest from our class Instagram account - 100th day of school!

Today we had a 100th day celebration. We had a lot of math fun - we rolled dice to 100, made 100 number sentences that equaled 100 (or at least we tried - most of us got into the 60s and 70s), we were silent for 100 seconds, and did 100 jumping jacks. We also ate chocolate eggs, pretzels, Nibs, and oat squares. Before we ate them, we had to guess which bag of each had exactly 100 of each of these foods. It was a tonne of fun! - Madyson via Instagram http://ift.tt/2l3kmu3

The latest from our class Instagram account - TCEA (Day 5)

‪This morning the @tcea_org conference ended with a truly inspiring closing address from Dr. Nadia Lopez, a principal from one of the poorest areas of New York City. This week has truly been one of the most rejuvenating weeks of my teaching career - I have learned so much that my brain hurt (seriously, I had to take Advil when I got back from the conference yesterday)! I have had a fantastic week that I will always cherish, but I'm so looking forward to getting back in the classroom on Monday - I miss my students! #tcea17 ‬ via Instagram http://ift.tt/2kc1pXh

The latest from our class Instagram account - TCEA (Day 4)

It was another jam-packed day at the conference on Thursday (so busy, in fact, that I completely forgot to post about it until this morning!). The day started off with a session on using drones with students, then a session on making and using memes in the classroom (super funny and informative), and then a couple of sessions on some different things that are new in ed tech (devices and apps/web tools). The day finished off with a big party for all the teachers, complete with a live band and prizes! We didn't win any prizes, but we got to meet and hang out with teachers from all over North America (until 7:30, when it ended). #tcea17 via Instagram http://ift.tt/2ku2FkB

The latest from our class Instagram account - TCEA (Day 3)

Another awesome day at #tcea17 - got to see a fantastic keynote address in the morning (by the CEO of @soulpancake, the people who produce the awesome Kid President videos), spent a couple of hours in the exhibit hall (where I got to meet Moby from @brainpop_official, and picked up something super-cool for the classroom... but you'll have to wait to find out what that is!), went to a great session on storymaking with @dshareski, and finished it off by spending the evening listening to a bunch of teachers giving Ignite presentations (where each presenter gets 20 slides, and each slide is up for exactly 15 seconds). My brain is full - time for bed! via Instagram http://ift.tt/2k5vd32

The latest from our class Instagram account - Global School Play Day

This afternoon, our class participated in the annual Global School Play Day, which encourages classes all over the world to give kids a chance for unstructured play (which happens much less than it used to), using non-electronic toys and games. Thanks to all the students who brought in some great things for us to play with (a small sampling of which I've included here), and special thanks to Madyson for bringing in the game Pie Face and a container of whipped cream, who many in the class (myself included) fell victim to! Check out globalschoolplayday.com for more info. #GSPD #GSPD17 via Instagram http://ift.tt/2l1xSLQ

The latest from our class Instagram account - 3 Act Math

We've been working on some 3 Act Math problems in class this week, and today I challenged the students to figure out how many teddy bear cookies and Goldfish were in the boxes. We had some interesting discussions as different groups had different numbers of each item in their bags (16 vs. 17 cookies; 80 vs. 81 Goldfish), which affected their final answers. However, based on the amount of items each group had in their bag, every group managed to correctly calculate how many should be in the box. Not only that, but they then figured out how many each person on the group should get to share them evenly - in so impressed with my mathematicians! via Instagram http://ift.tt/2jIbg1J
